How Much Do Bollards Cost in Australia? (2026 Price Guide)
How much do bollards cost? For the bollard alone, a steel safety bollard runs from $80 ex GST (our 90mm fixed bollard) to around $300 each at general retail. Installation, freight and site extras are priced on top. Below are our actual product prices, the general installation ranges and two worked examples with the arithmetic shown.
Short answer: A steel safety bollard costs from $80 ex GST ($88 inc GST) for a SafeWise 90mm fixed bollard, and from $120 ex GST ($132 inc GST) for a 90mm removable key-lock bollard that includes its in-ground socket. General Australian price guides put retail steel bollards at about $150–$300 each and contractor installation at about $250–$700 per bollard, so an installed bollard commonly lands around $400–$1,000 before extras such as concrete cutting or permits. Installation is always quoted separately by your contractor.

How much do bollards cost by type?
SafeWise's indicative starting prices per unit, ex freight. Inc GST adds 10%.
| Product | Ex GST | Inc GST |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed Bollard 90mm (SW-FB90) | from $80 | $88 |
| Fixed Bollard 140mm (SW-FB140) | from $110 | $121 |
| Removable Bollard 90mm (SW-RB90) | from $120 | $132 |
| Removable Bollard 140mm (SW-RB140) | from $140 | $154 |
| Storage Holder 90mm (SW-SL90) | $25 | $27.50 |
| Storage Holder 140mm (SW-SL140) | $35 | $38.50 |
Starting prices as at 8 October 2026, ex freight. Fixed bollards are 900mm (90mm) and 1300mm (140mm) tall; removable bollards stand 900mm above ground and include the in-ground socket, key lock and keys. Pallet and container volumes price better. Final price is confirmed in a written quote.
Removable bollard price
A removable bollard comes as a set: the bollard, an in-ground socket with cover plate, and a key lock with keys. The socket is already in the $120 (90mm) and $140 (140mm) ex GST price. You add the labour to core drill or cast it in, plus grout. If it comes out often, a storage holder ($25 or $35 ex GST) gives it somewhere to sit.
Fixed bollard price
A fixed bollard bolts to the slab through its base plate, so there is no socket to buy and no core to drill. Anchors are extra. Unsure which type suits? See removable vs fixed bollards.
General guide figures
Stainless, retractable and installed bollard prices
SafeWise supplies powder-coated carbon steel only. For stainless, retractable and installed pricing, these are rough ranges from general Australian price guides. They are not quotes.
| Item | General guide range |
|---|---|
| Surface-mounted steel safety bollard, retail | about $150–$300 each |
| Stainless steel bollard | roughly double painted carbon steel |
| Retractable or automatic bollard | $800–$1,500+ per unit, plus servicing |
| Contractor installation | $250–$700 per bollard |
| Extras: concrete cutting, permits, traffic management | $200–$1,000+ per job |
| Buying in bulk or alongside other concrete works | commonly saves 10–20% |
Add retail and installation and an installed bollard comes to roughly $400–$1,000 ($150 + $250 at the low end, $300 + $700 at the high end) before per-job extras. Check whether any figure you are given is ex or inc GST.
Why prices differ
What drives the price of a bollard
Two bollards that look alike can sit a long way apart on price. These factors usually explain it.
- Diameter and weight. The 140mm removable is $20 above the 90mm ($140 v $120). The 140mm fixed is $30 above ($110 v $80) and 1300mm tall against 900mm. More steel costs more.
- Wall thickness. All SafeWise bollards have a 3mm carbon steel wall. Ask for the wall thickness in writing when you compare quotes; a lower price can mean a thinner wall.
- Height. Industry guides commonly summarise AS/NZS 2890.6 as calling for a bollard at least 1300mm high beside an accessible parking space. Confirm against the current standard.
- Finish. Ours are powder-coated safety yellow with a red reflective band. Stainless is roughly double the price of painted carbon steel.
- Removable mechanism. The socket, cover plate and key lock add $40 at 90mm ($120 v $80) and $30 at 140mm ($140 v $110).
- Quantity. Our starting prices improve at pallet and container volume.
- Freight. Steel is heavy. See freight and pickup.
Installation
Bollard installation cost: what to budget
SafeWise supplies product only, so installation is a separate contractor quote. General guides put it at about $250–$700 per bollard, plus $200–$1,000+ of extras per job.
How it is fixed sets the labour
- Surface mount (fixed). Drill through the base plate holes and fix with M10 concrete anchors, typically 100–150mm long. Usually the least labour. Thin or old slabs need a qualified installer to assess them.
- Core drilled (removable, existing slab). Core drill about 130mm (90mm socket) or 220–225mm (140mm), seat the socket, backfill with non-shrink grout or concrete and trowel flush. See how to install removable bollards.
- New pour. Set the socket in wet concrete with gravel beneath for drainage and cure fully. Often cheapest when concrete is going in anyway.

What else moves the installation price
- Slab condition. Cracked, thin or old concrete can change the anchors or method.
- Bollards per visit. Set-up, travel and scanning are largely per visit, so one visit for several bollards is usually better value.
- Access. Tight sites, restricted hours and long carries add time.
- Services. Locate them first with Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) plus a scanner where in doubt.
- Public land. Footpath, nature strip or road reserve works generally need council consent.
Worked examples
What a real job adds up to
Product lines use SafeWise starting prices. Installation uses the general $250–$700 per bollard range, a rough indication only. Your contractor's quote decides.
Example 1: six fixed bollards for a shopfront
Six 90mm fixed bollards bolted to an existing slab.
| Line | Ex GST | Inc GST |
|---|---|---|
| 6 × Fixed Bollard 90mm (SW-FB90) at $80 ex, $88 inc | $480 | $528 |
| Product total (GST is 10% of $480 = $48) | $480 | $528 |
Installation by the general range: 6 × $250 = $1,500 to 6 × $700 = $4,200. With the $480 of product, the job lands around $1,980–$4,680 before per-job extras. For comparison, six bollards at the general retail range of $150–$300 each would be $900–$1,800 for product alone.
Example 2: a driveway with two removable bollards and two storage holders
Two 90mm removable bollards across a driveway, with one holder each for when they are lifted out.
| Line | Ex GST | Inc GST |
|---|---|---|
| 2 × Removable Bollard 90mm (SW-RB90) at $120 ex, $132 inc | $240 | $264 |
| 2 × Storage Holder 90mm (SW-SL90) at $25 ex, $27.50 inc | $50 | $55 |
| Product total (GST is 10% of $290 = $29) | $290 | $319 |
The sockets are in the bollard price and the holders just bolt down. Installation: 2 × $250 = $500 to 2 × $700 = $1,400, so about $790–$1,690 with the $290 of product, before concrete cutting or other per-job extras.
Neither total includes freight, anchors, grout or installation.

Hidden bollard costs checklist
- Anchors and grout. Not included. Fixed bollards need M10 concrete anchors; removable sockets need non-shrink grout or concrete.
- Freight. Quoted per job by weight and destination.
- Core drill hire. Or the contractor's rig, for removable sockets.
- Cutting and scanning. Concrete cutting, plus a scanner and BYDA check before drilling.
- Disposal and making good. Cores, spoil, patching and reinstating.
- Permits. Public land generally needs council consent. Private property usually doesn't, but check strata or owners corporation rules and any planning overlay.
- Traffic management. If the work sits beside live traffic.
- GST. Our prices are ex GST. Budget the inc GST figure if you can't claim it back.

How to save on bollards
- Buy in volume. Put every bollard for the site on one order. Pallet and container quantities price better.
- Combine with other concrete works. General guides put the saving from bulk buying and doing bollards alongside other concrete works at 10–20%.
- Choose the right size, not the biggest. See the 90mm vs 140mm guide.
- Surface mount where it suits. A fixed bollard avoids the socket, core drill and grout.
- Order ahead of the container. Bollards are pre-order. Tell us early so your quote and landing date are in hand before the job is booked.
- Compare installers like for like. Get at least two quotes on the same scope.
Freight and pickup
We freight to any Australian postcode. Freight is quoted per job by weight and destination and shows as its own line in your written quote. Bollards are heavy steel: approx. 9.5kg for a 90mm bollard, 13.5kg for a 140mm removable and 17.5kg for a 140mm fixed. Six 90mm fixed bollards are about 57kg before packaging.
Pickup in Melbourne is by arrangement; see bollards in Melbourne. Put bollards and holders on one enquiry so the quote covers the whole job.
FAQs
Bollard price questions
How much does a removable bollard cost?
SafeWise removable key-lock bollards start from $120 ex GST ($132 inc GST) for the 90mm and $140 ex GST ($154 inc GST) for the 140mm, with the in-ground socket, key lock and keys included. Core drilling or casting in the socket is a separate cost. Installation is quoted by your contractor.
Are bollard prices ex GST?
SafeWise prices are quoted ex GST and ex freight. Add 10% for the inc GST figure: $80 ex GST is $88 inc GST. Other suppliers don't always say which they mean, so check any quote you compare.
How much does it cost to install a bollard?
General Australian price guides put contractor installation at about $250–$700 per bollard, depending on surface, method and access. Extras such as concrete cutting, permits and traffic management can add $200–$1,000+ per job. SafeWise supplies product only, so get an installation quote from your contractor.
Are stainless steel bollards worth it?
Sometimes. General guides put stainless at roughly double the price of painted carbon steel. It can make sense where appearance matters or corrosion is a concern, such as coastal or wash-down areas. For simple delineation, a powder-coated steel bollard usually does the job for about half the price. SafeWise supplies powder-coated carbon steel only.
Do you offer bulk pricing?
Yes. Our prices are per-unit starting points and improve at pallet and container volume, because we buy direct from the factory in volume. Tell us the quantity and delivery postcode and we'll quote a unit price and freight in writing.
Is there a minimum order?
No hard minimum order. Bollards are pre-order on the next container (factory production typically 15–20 days plus sea freight and customs clearance); storage holders are in stock now. Freight is quoted per job, so one enquiry keeps it to a single freight line.
Are SafeWise bollards crash-rated?
No. SafeWise bollards are safety and delineation bollards for marking boundaries, protecting against low-speed nudges and keeping vehicles off areas. They are not crash-rated and not impact-tested or certified to PAS 68 or IWA 14. A rated barrier is a different class of product with a different price, and an engineer should specify it.
